EL GERNIKA

EL GERNIKA

This enormously popular Picasso painting is inspired in the massive German air attack suffered by the nearby village of Gernika in 1937, during the Spanish Civil War. It is entirely painted in black, white and a wide range of grays just to emphasize the drama lived in the bombing. Although the Gernika has been displayed in the most prestigious art galleries in the world, it curiously took part in an exhibit hosted by a car dealership in Manchester in 1939. It became one of the icons of the XX century and we can contemplate it at Queen Sofía Art Museum in Madrid.
